2023-2024 Home School Connection, week 32

Hello Eagles,

Our Smarter Balanced State Testing begins for grades 3-5 after spring break. It is important that students arrive at school on time. Per testing guidelines, once testing begins, they are not allowed to enter classrooms til the session ends. How do I help my child?

Here are a few ideas:

  • Over the break, continue to build your child’s reading stamina by setting up a routine reading time. Whether they read online, read a book, or read subtitles to a favorite movie, make reading fun and a part of an everyday routine!
  • Continue a routine sleep schedule. Children need more than 8 hours. Set up an agreed time to put away  electronic devices.
  • Speak with your child every day about their goals for the day. Ask, “what will you do when things get hard?”  Assure your child that challenges are a part of growing up.
  • Help your child prepare for school. The night before, remind your child to charge their chromebooks and have them put their backpack by the door next to their shoes.

Reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. For more information about the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) test, visit their website: A Parent Guide to Understanding The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments.  Sample tests are found on this LINK.

A few other reminders:

  • It’s not too late…  Summer School will be at Pioneer this year! If you are interested, sign up now!  Applications are due April 8, 2024. We’re looking forward to another fun summer!
  • Last Day to purchase a year book is April 5!
